The City of Calgary is unveiling its largest solar photovoltaic (PV) project to date at the Southland Leisure Centre on Tuesday, September 22 from 2 to 4 pm. This is an exciting green initiative and alternative energy addition to our ward.
With an average of 2,400 hours of sunlight each year, Calgary is an ideal city for solar technology. The solar PV system recently installed at Southland Leisure Centre includes 600 solar panels mounted on the roof of the leisure centre and is expected to provide up to 184,000 kWh of electricity each year. That’s equivalent to offsetting the electricity use by 24 average Calgary homes in a year and supports The City’s priority of making Calgary a healthy and green city by investing in renewable energy.
