I wanted to let you know what is going to start happening around the Glenmore Landing Shopping Centre site in the near future. As you are aware, I have been advocating for the SW Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), known formally as the Southwest Transitway to be built as soon as possible. Currently, the City is going to go out and start doing engagement and planning around the Southwest Transitway to be able to have a plan in place for the end of 2016, with the intent of construction for the project in 2017 and 2018.

As you might be aware, the plan is for a station to be at Glenmore Landing, north of 90th Avenue and west of 14th Street SW. The owners of the Glenmore Landing Shopping Centre have decided they want to begin looking at redevelopment of the site in the near future. Seeing the opportunity for some synergies, I brought forward a motion to City Council on February 9th directing City staff to work with the owners of Glenmore Landing to ensure we are maximizing the opportunity on the site. That should include having the transit station incorporated within the Glenmore Landing site itself. See the Notice of Motion to see what was specifically directed of City Administration.
We can expect a lot of discussion and meetings this year about both the Southwest Transitway as well as Glenmore Landing. As we get notices of meetings and any further information in my office, we will be sharing it.
