One thing that I think doesn’t come up often enough in City-related discussions is how many fantastic, dedicated people there are working here. I’ve had the privilege of working closely with many great City of Calgary employees over my years on Council, but one person who stands out is Dave Griffiths, outgoing Waste & Recycling Services Director. Under Dave’s leadership we have seen the City create a great recycling program, and he has laid a solid foundation for the future.
Dave is retiring after having worked for the City for an unbelievable 39 years and in that time never lost his commitment to customer service. Whether it was through a disaster like 2013 flood, or day to day operations, he led his team to strive for the highest levels of customer satisfaction and succeeded, making our recycling program the pride of all. It’s not always a glamorous job, but it’s one that has a direct impact on each and every Calgarian. Next time you take out your recycling, take a second to toast Dave and the behind-the-scenes magicians that keep Calgary running smoothly!
