City Council continues to be busy over the summer months making important decisions that will impact Calgarians for many years to come. One of these major decisions has been the approval of the Green Line LRT. On June 26, 2017 Council approved the recommended alignment and station locations for the Green Line LRT from 160th Avenue in the North to Seton in the South. However, with the revised plan to only build the Green Line LRT to 16th Avenue in the North, I voted against this alignment. I would have liked Council to look at alternatives that could have been less costly so that the Green Line LRT could be built further North to at least North Pointe where it could serve the communities of Ward 2.

Council also approved a motion to direct city administration to complete a risk assessment and to evaluate the merits of testing autonomous vehicles on Calgary’s roadways. As technology advances in this area, I want to ensure that our roadways are safe for all drivers and pedestrians.
Fines for unsafe fire pits and burning prohibited materials have recently been increased. The regulations for fire pits include:
• Using a mesh screen or spark guard to reduce the spread of embers and sparks
• Extinguishing the flame by midnight on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends
• Restricting the height of the flame to one metre
• Ensuring the fire pit is at least two metres from other structures and is not under a tree or overhanging branches
• Ensuring you have a means of extinguishing the fire on hand and that you put it out before you leave it unattended
