Ward 3 News: Airport Tunnel - History and Current Status

  • Share

This video provides an overview of the history and political landscape leading up to the decision to build the airport tunnel and the current status of related development.

It outlines the top drivers for building the tunnel including the significant development planned over the next few years in the area and the need to create a connection through the airport lands to accommodate it. "We’re building a city the size of Lethbridge on the east side of Deerfoot," says Councillor Jim Stevenson. The video also highlights that research and engineering experts agreed that building the tunnel after the opening of the new runway would have been next to impossible, and certainly would have been much more costly.
