Last month I had the privilege of attending the ribbon cutting at the grand opening of the Calgary International Airport's (YYC) newest and longest runway.
To celebrate this historic event, YYC hosted a two-day Run & Roam the Runway. On June 14, 1,400 participants were able to run the runway and on June 15, 10,000 guests were given the opportunity to roam the runway. It was a fun two days and featured aircraft displays, food trucks and other attractions.
Last year YYC was the fastest growing airport in Canada and over the last 20 years has more than doubled in size and passenger volumes. Projects such as the new runway are critical in order to meet the needs of this continued growth.
