Cedarglen Homes has purchased the Harvest Hills Golf Course and has expressed an intention to redevelop the site. This will require a land use re-designation (re-zoning). Cedarglen has enlisted the services of QuantumPlace Developments, a development manager, to oversee the project and to lead the community engagement process.
While no application has yet been received, understanding the process and the role of each participant will help to ensure everyone has an opportunity to communicate their comments and concerns.
Once the application for re-zoning is received it will be the responsibility of City administration to review the application and community comments based on approved Council policy such as the Municipal Development Plan and the Calgary Transportation Plan.
Residents that are impacted by the potential redevelopment can also provide input in several different ways during the process including:
- Communicating with the Northern Hills Community Association.
- Participating in the community engagement process with QuantumPlace Developments.
- Submitting comments to City staff during circulation of the re-zoning application (NHCA will receive a copy of the application).
- Attending the public hearing of Council when the application for re-zoning is discussed and voted on.
The role of Council will be to make the final decision on the application at a public hearing of Council.
As your councillor, I alone cannot stop a re-zoning application from being approved and any decision of Council must be made based on planning principals as set out in City policy.
