I have been provided an update from the City’s Transportation department regarding the timing for the widening of Metis Trail from 80th Avenue to 96th Avenue.  I had hoped that this could be achieved this year; however, due to the length of time required for the design work and approvals, construction will be delayed until spring 2018.

As part of the Savanna development, Genstar is required to widen the portion from 88th to 96th Avenue.   Genstar is still working on the design for their portion of Metis Trail from 88th to 96th which will include a full intersection at 88th.  Once the design is complete, approvals are required before beginning construction in 2018.

The City is responsible for the portion from 88th south to 80th Avenue.  Several issues have lead to the delay for the City’s portion, including failed negotiations to purchase a portion of the land from the two landowners south of 88th.  The City has chosen to abandon these negotiations and moved forward with a redesign of this portion of Metis so there is no longer any need to purchase additional land.

Both the City and Genstar consider this project a priority for the residents of the northeast and will continue to work together to ensure its completion for 2018.
