The City of Calgary Roads department understands how important it is for Calgarians to be able to get where they want to go safely. In the winter this can be challenging because of snow and ice on the roads so a seven day snow and ice control (SNIC) plan has been developed to keep you moving safely.
Roads are maintained during the winter months by:
- Anti-icing before a snow event.
- Sanding, salting and plowing roads.
- Snow removal and storage.
- Sidewalk snow removal.
- Snow fencing where required.
The City Roads department is also responsible for clearing snow and ice from LRT stations while the City Parks department is responsible for the pathway system.
The Roads team has created the Snow & Ice Clearing Update page which is updated twice daily with detailed information on the current snow event.
