Re: DP2014-2780 Drop In Centre - 4800, 4804 Edmonton Trail NE
After meeting with Planning Manager SL, Planning Coordinator JR, and file manager KM, I would like to provide you with an update on the Drop In Centre’s - Quality Inn Development Permit application.
First, although this type of matter infrequently makes its way before the City of Calgary Planning Commission, I have been assured that this application will in fact be brought before the commission. This is due, in no small part, to our concerted efforts to highlight the concerns about the intended development and the applicant’s operational issues and capabilities.
Secondly, although the application is currently awaiting approval from Bylaw services, I was informed that in all likelihood the application will be presented to the Commission on October 8th. This means that members of the public may attend that date. However, I do want to mention that, because Planning Commission is a technical process, only those invited to speak by the Commission may do so. In regards to non technical stakeholder concerns I have been assured that the Planning Commission will be receiving all previous submissions sent to the Planning Department.
Thirdly, because this matter is going before the Planning Commission, there is an opportunity for stakeholders and the general public to submit new concerns directly to the commission. However, please keep in mind this process is meant for materials that stakeholders have not already brought forward to the Planning Department. In order to ensure the Planning Commission is privy to this new information please submit any written concerns directly to Ian Cope at firstname.lastname@example.org by September 25th. Please send a copy of any new submissions to my office as well so that I may update my files accordingly.
Fourthly, I was informed that if the Planning Commission does recommend approval for this application then there only need to be one appeal submitted to open the entire appeal board process to all stakeholders. My office will be here to support in appealing this application.
Lastly, if all City of Calgary appeal processes are exhausted, and a positive result is still not obtained, then there are other appeal avenues that may be explored by stakeholders. Again, myself and my office, would be more than happy to support any stakeholders in learning more about those options.
As always, I am working hard to represent the concerns of Ward 4 residents who may be affected by this application without biasing the process, and if you have any questions please let me know.
