The City of Calgary is considering installing a roundabout at the intersection of 68 Street N.E. and Monterey Square to allow safe access into the communities south of 16 Avenue N.E. and to reduce traffic delays. This intersection is currently operated with signal lights. It is hopeful this roundabout will reduce delays at the intersection of 16 Avenue N.E. and 68 Street N.E. by approximately 20% and increase safety.
When Stoney Trail East opened, the westbound left turn at 68 Street N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. was closed by a barrier because the distance from the exit ramp from Stoney Trail to this intersection was too short to safely make the southbound turn. This restriction has stopped residents south of 16 Avenue N.E. from entering their community after exiting Stoney Trail.
Residents continue to unsafely turn left (southbound) from the intersection or travel northbound and shortcut through the strip mall, located at 68 Street N.E. and Monterey Square N.E. to get to their southbound destination. This results in high traffic queues during peak hours and the roundabout is meant to reduce the queue lengths significantly and increase safety.
An open house is scheduled for:
Wednesday May 13
5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Monterey Park Community Association
2707 Catalina Blvd. N.E.

If you are unable to attend this information session we encourage you to provide your comments online until June 4, 2015 on the Engage portal at www.calgary.ca/engage The project team will report back by mid-June on their final decisions.
