Residents in Calgary's Ward 5 communities are invited to join Alderman Ray Jones on his third annual Community Cleanup Day, Saturday June 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friends, families and neighbours can spend a few hours cleaning up an important area in Ward 5 - a yard, local park, street or alley, or other local area in need of improvement.
The City of Calgary Waste & Recycling Services and other recycling companies will be on site to collect residential waste and recycling materials at no charge. This includes tires, steel, miscellaneous metals and appliances, electronics and items for shredding. Residents can bring waste materials to one of eight locations on the day until 2 p.m.
See our Ward 5 Community Cleanup Day brochure for locations and other detailed information.
Thank you to all the sponsors, participants, volunteers and residents that made this day another huge success.
At this year’s clean up we successfully eliminated 267,020 kg or 294.34 tons from our communities, such as:
- 4,330 kg or 400 scrap tires
- 24,596 kg of metal
- 110,000 kg of materials for shredding
- 27,969 kg of electronics
- 236,445 kg of general refuse
Again this year, as in past years we partnered with the Calgary Parking Authority.Over a two week period prior to the cleanup day they issued: 229 tags for various infractions; 197 vehicles towed for expired plates, no plates or inoperable; 30 - 72 hour notices for detached trailers, or abandoned vehicles; and 4 - 36 hour notices for RV parking.
Again, thank you for your continued support and for making this worthwhile event such a great success!
