Project Update - Feb. 8, 2016
Construction on the McKnight Boulevard N.E. widening project and reconstruction of the eastbound lanes will start up again March to early April 2016 depending on frost levels and weather conditions.
In the summer of 2016 when the eastbound lanes are completed the two westbound lanes will close. Westbound traffic will then be re-routed onto the two new eastbound lanes. The project completion date is scheduled for fall 2016. More "in-depth" details on this project can be found here.
Project Information - May 2015
McKnight Boulevard N.E. will be widened and reconstructed from four to six lanes starting summer 2015 between 12 and 19 Streets N.E. The upgrades to McKnight Boulevard were recommended in The City’s Investing in Mobility Plan. McKnight carries some of the highest commercial truck volumes in Calgary. Over time, the roadway has deteriorated and traffic volumes have increased considerably.
On May 6, 2015 attendees were welcomed to an Information Session on McKnight Boulevard N.E. Widening. As a result of this session, the pathway along the south side of McKnight Boulevard will be extended past 12 Street N.E. and will join up with a cul-de-sac at 48 Avenue N.E.
Construction began August 4, 2015 (starting on the median between 12 and 19 Streets N.E.) and will continue over the 2015-2016 construction seasons - weather dependent. Other improvements will include a pathway on the south side, intersection improvements at 12 and 19 Streets N.E., and new street lights. The access to 15 Street N.E. will be changed to a right in/right out access for westbound traffic with no left turn for eastbound traffic. As well, construction will include utility relocations.
