The Saddle Ridge Sanitary Sewer Upgrades project will provide sanitary servicing to northeast Calgary. With current approved development plans the servicing area is expected to increase 1,800 hectares by 2035. In order to maintain the level of service within the sanitary system and provide additional capacity to support future developments, the sanitary sewer system will be twinned.
Construction has begun and we anticipate the project will be complete by October this year. The length of construction can vary depending on the condition of the soil, availability of materials, difficulty of excavation and other issues.
The project is located south of 32 Avenue NE crossing Deerfoot Trail. The alignment of the sewer will start directly east of Deerfoot Trail at the Fox Hollow pedestrian bridge then cross underneath Deerfoot Trail, finishing at a tie-in point in the Fox Hollow golf course. The sewer will be installed using trenchless tunneling methods under Deerfoot and open cut through the golf course. There are no anticipated disruptions to traffic on Deerfoot Trail.
During design, consultation with the Fox Hollow golf course took place so that the design would minimize the impact on the golf course.
- Noise and dust (will be controlled by contractor)
- Due to trenchless tunneling methodology, 24 hour a day work may be required to protect tunneling equipment, outside of tunneling other work will take place from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday
- An area of the golf course will be fenced off for construction – we are working with them to minimize impacts
- No pathway closures are anticipated for this project; however, there will be a minor detour of the pathway on the east side of Deerfoot Trail
