In early 2014, ATCO Pipelines received Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) approval for the proposed Urban Pipeline Replacement (UPR) Program. In the UPR application, ATCO Pipelines proposed to construct a new high-pressure pipeline system primarily along the Transportation/Utilities Corridor (TUC) in the City of Calgary. This new pipeline system is to be constructed in stages over a five year period. The purpose of the new pipeline system is to replace ATCO Pipelines’ vintage pipeline infrastructure within the City of Calgary and to add capacity to meet the growing demand for safe and reliable natural gas service to Alberta’s largest centres.
Next summer, ATCO Pipelines will begin construction on segments of the UPR Program in West Calgary (please see image below for location). Specific information, maps and details about the West Calgary Connector Project, including associated tie-ins, are outlined here UPRBrochure_WestCalgaryConnector.pdf.
ATCO Pipelines intends to submit a facilities application to the AUC in late 2015 for approval to construct this pipeline project. ATCO Pipelines aims to create and maintain positive working relationships by providing notice to all directly affected persons, landowners and occupants within 200 metres of the proposed pipeline route. An open house was held on October 26, 2015; project information, construction timelines and a video can be found at www.atcopipelines.com/upr
