Construction Advisory - Start of Elbow River Channel Realignment Works

  • Share

Ward 6 official website

Activity and Location: As construction commences for the Southwest Calgary Ring Road (SWCRR), KGL Constructors will be starting preliminary works related to the Elbow River channel realignment near future bridge structures. The activity will be completed in accordance with all relevant federal and provincial environmental regulations/acts and using best management practices.

River realignment is a common engineering process that creates a new, permanent water channel. This will allow for the construction of the SWCRR bridges, while minimizing impact to the Elbow River’s habitat by providing a bioengineered channel comparable to the river’s original path.

This technique integrates living trees, shrubs and grasses together with tree roots, woody debris and rocks to increase the strength and structure of the streambank, while blending into the natural environment.
