Passion for Parks & Summer Recreation
Passion for Parks
Our big geographical area means a lot of public, outdoor, and green space for Calgarians. The City of Calgary Parks works hard to maintain and bring life to Calgary’s 8,000 hectares of parkland, 800 km of pathways available and over 5,600 public park sites to explore and enjoy. Register your family in a Nature Day Camp to Discover Nature, Little Critters, and the Wonder of Nature. If you get caught in the rain, consider dropping in on one of our indoor parks for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at Devonian Gardens.
Pet owners rejoice! Calgary has 150 off-leash areas, the largest number of off-leash areas and combined amount of off-leash space in North America. Join one of the upcoming P.U.P.P.Y. programs where volunteers lead engaging, interpretive programs on a variety of pet-related topics. Learn about responsible pet ownership, bylaws, keeping your animal safe, the Off-leash Ambassador Program, and much more.
Park spaces will be busy again this summer. Let’s get out and enjoy parks all around the city this season, borrow a City of Calgary activity and game equipment bag, join your neighbours to enjoy pancake breakfasts or BBQ’s, and volunteer for community enhancement activities. Calgarians are encouraged to enjoy these spaces all summer by renting park space, tennis courts, designated recreation areas, and even picnic tables. Visit calgary.ca/parks for detailed information about all programs and events and be sure to take a moment to stop and smell the flowers.
