As part of our commitment to maintain safe play environments for our children, Calgary Parks developed a city-wide lifecycle playground removal and replacement process, which involves removing, refurbishing and/or replacing community playgrounds and amenities throughout the city.
Through this lifecycle program and our regular inspection process, Calgary Parks has chosen the following playground sites in Ward 6:
1201 Strathcona Drive SW – Calgary Parks is looking for best space utilization and equipment options on this smaller site.
590 Strathcona Drive SW – Calgary Parks would like to see a full replacement on this larger site and possible modification to the footprint.
Signal Hill Park on Sirocco Drive SW – Calgary Parks plans a full equipment replacement and possible footprint modification on this large site.
Calgary Parks and Parks Foundation Calgary are partnering to involve the community, and provide the opportunity to supplement funds for desired improvements. This process will allow for a more collaborative process in establishing requests for proposals (RFPs), within given parameters, for the specified sites and allow the overall design choice to better reflect community needs. Community members for each site have formed a small committee to work with Park groups; this approach ensures community involvement, without having to take on the responsibility of large scale design and fundraising initiatives, in coordination with the lifecycle program for playgrounds in the community.
If a community wants to contribute some funds to their community playground, Parks Foundation can work with the group to supplement those dollars that will contribute to a bigger and better build and design of the chosen playground sites.
