Ward 6, City of Calgary traffic safety and the Calgary
Police Service (CPS) will be hosting a community traffic safety meeting on
October 22, 2016 from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at SCA Community Association, 277
Strathcona Boulevard SW.
The City is dedicated to keeping our streets safe for users
of all modes of transportation. Traffic Safety is of paramount concern to
citizens, consistently appearing as a top concern in citizen satisfaction
surveys. This meeting is a place to voice your concerns as well as learn how to
keep Calgary’s roads safe for all users. The goal of the meeting is to create a
forum to discuss and raise awareness of traffic safety and to take some
specific actions based on your concerns.
Specific things that The City, CPS and citizens can do to
improve safety will be discussed.
Participants will then be asked to provide feedback about where they
believe additional CPS enforcement would be beneficial in their ward. Discussions
will also highlight Calgary Police Service reliance on traffic safety requests
as a key indicator of where targeted enforcement and education are needed, in
order to address traffic concerns.
Based on feedback, CPS will conduct additional enforcement
in each identified area and report back their findings. The City’s
Transportation Department will then research and recommend specific engineering
measures that could be applied where issues exist.
The Calgary Safer Mobility Plan is a five-year plan created
to identify transportation safety issues, as well as examine ways to increase
safety of the transportation network.
