January 13, 2017
On January 5, 2017, the City of Calgary mailed your 2017 property
and business assessment notices. Please review it carefully to ensure your
property details are accurate and the assessed value is a fair reflection of
the value of your property as of July 1, 2016.
The 2017 property assessments
reflect the market value of property on July 1, 2016 and its physical condition
on Dec. 31, 2016. The 2017 business assessments reflect the typical net annual
rental value of business premises on July 1, 2016. Property and business
owners are advised to carefully review their assessment. Changes to a 2017
assessment can only be made if an inquiry is made received during the 2017
Customer Review Period. Assessments provide the basis for calculating property
and business taxes. Annual market value assessments
are legislated under the provincial Municipal Government Act.
If you have any questions or would like to contest your
property’s assessment, please contact Assessment at 403-268-2888 during the
Customer Review Period, which runs until March 6, 2017. Changes to your
assessed value can only be made if you inquire about it during the review
period. If you call after March 6, 2017 and changes are made to your property
details, they will be reflected on your following year’s assessment in 2018.
