In order to provide essential operational services to
citizens in the SW quadrant of the city, the City of Calgary is further
developing the Sarcee Operations Workplace Centre (OWC) at 5831 Richmond
Road. Citizens will have already seen that Westhills Way is under
construction along the west edge of the site and, starting in August 2016,
construction of a three storey administration building will begin. The building
will provide administrative space to our Roads, Parks and Facility Management
business units. Construction of the Administration Building will be followed by
two new Vehicle Storage Buildings to service our Parks and Roads business units
with construction scheduled complete over the next eighteen months.
An OWC is a service centre and staging point for City of
Calgary operational business units who deliver services to the public such as
snow removal and parks maintenance. OWCs typically have a combination of
activities and functions such as storage of materials, storage of vehicles,
vehicle fueling stations and administrative office space.
Construction will take place during daylight hours from
Monday to Friday. The foundation for the building consists of steel driven
piles which will be driven in place by a hydraulic hammer. While measures will
be taken to minimize the dust and noise, this work will likely create noise
levels that may be noticed by the neighbouring communities of Sienna Hills and
Signal Hill. The piling is expected to take six weeks, and we appreciate your
patience during this time frame.
