What do your kids do after-school?
Give your kids a healthy break from video games and television with Calgary AfterSchool!  This FREE after-school program offered by The City of Calgary provides children and youth fun programming and recreation with their peers. All Calgary children aged 6-16 are eligible for this free after-school program which takes care of the after class snack, offers help with homework, practices new skills and provides an opportunity to socialize with new kids. The goals of the program are to develop self-esteem, encourage positive relationships and inspire children and youth to experience new activities.
The reality
The benefits of providing kids with structured activities after the bell rings are well documented. Research shows that children and youth who are provided with safe and stimulating environments from 3 - 6 p.m. show positive development in their social, physical, leadership and creative skills.
Parents also benefit from knowing that their children are being cared for in a supervised environment that offers a variety of interesting activities tailored to their interests while they are at work. Research shows that children and youth who participate in quality after school programming are less at risk to get involved in crime, gangs, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy and other activities that may be harmful to their healthy development. Most importantly, youth have fun and spend their after-school time in positive ways with Calgary AfterSchool. See a listing of all after-school programs across the City at, Calgary AfterSchool.
