Thank you for emailing Councillor Richard Pootmans and the Ward 6 Team. We share your frustration regarding the ongoing winter road conditions, and we have heard from many your neighbours. Our office has been in contact with representatives in Roads numerous times a day and so they learn of the challenges that each of our neighbourhoods are facing.
Roads operational goal is to clear residential roadways to the Council approved Snow and Ice Control Policy of a “safe and passable” standard. The problem we have seen is that the communication regarding what is "safe and passable", compared to the Roads announcement to do snow "removal" has caused concerns. Unfortunately, we have come to understand that most snow/ice will remain on our roads but in a manageable amount. In some cases, our office has heard that these standards are not good enough.
We encourage you to report your issue through the 311 system so the Roads crews can evaluate your individual situation. In addition, we encourage you to work with your neighbours and community to alleviate your concerns as well. Councillor Pootmans has engaged with Roads in Council, along with his Council colleagues, to fully execute the policy related to Snow and Ice Control. Together, we will work through this situation and have better systems in place for future events. In the meantime, we thank you for your assistance, patience and understanding during this period of record snowfall.
