Ward 6 Report

West LRT and Feeder Bus Network review

In our last W6 Report, we wrote about our work with Calgary Transit on an ongoing review of the West LRT and area bus network. We met with Transit officials in late January to discuss some of the feedback that we have been receiving and to come up with our next steps for improving service in the area. During that meeting, Transit made the commitment to conduct a round of public engagement throughout the spring, which includes a customer survey and a series of public open houses.

West LRT Customer survey

The customer survey is currently available online. This survey will be open until at least April 15 to allow as many customers to take part as possible.

Public Open Houses

During the month of April, Calgary Transit will host a number of public open houses to gather feedback from area residents and Transit users. Dates and locations are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 10 – Westbrook LRT Station, 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 11 – 69 Street Station, 3:30pm to 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 18 – Glamorgan Community Association (4207 42 Ave SW), 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 23 – Strathcona Community Hall (277 Strathcona Drive SW), 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 1 – Richmond Road Bus Terminal, 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Transit officials will also be available at our Ward 6 Spring Open House.

Increased Transit use in West LRT zone

While Transit continues with their ridership counts and engagement, preliminary findings point to an increase in Transit use since the launch of the West LRT. Ridership counts done in January and February have shown increased ridership on a number of routes. In order to paint a more accurate picture, Transit will continue with passenger counts on both bus routes and the LRT, comparing these with pre-LRT ridership.

As Transit wraps up their customer survey and public engagement sessions in April, we hope to be able to provide a more in-depth picture of how the West LRT has changed Transit patterns in Ward 6 when we release our next W6 Report.
