Ward 6 Report

Council communications blackout period

The next municipal election is set for October 21, 2013. This means that, in the interest of fairness and ensuring an equal footing for all candidates, there will be some restrictions placed on current Council Members’ with regard to our communications.

These restrictions include a blackout period during which time Council Members and our staff may not update our websites or send out mass communication pieces such as newsletters. The cut off date for us to send out newsletters is May 31, 2013, while we may continue to make updates to our websites until Nomination Day (September 23, 2013).

Council responsibilities

I have a full roster of committee and board assignments to continue to advance the interests of Ward 6 at City Hall.

Responsibilities include being the newly elected Vice Chair of two key committees relevant for Ward 6:

As Vice Chair of the Audit Committee, I work with our internal City Auditor as well our External Auditor. Our City Auditor focuses on risk management, compliance and value for money audits. His office is fully independent of The City’s Administration and reports directly to City Council through the Audit Committee. Our External Auditor performs our financial audit.

Both Auditors play an important role in ensuring that your tax dollars are being used in the most effective and efficient manner.

I also serve on the following Council Committees:
