Ward 6 News: Remembrance Day 2012 at Battalion Park

  • Share

Ward 6 Report

Please join me at Battalion Park on November 11, at 10:40 a.m. for the inaugural Remembrance Day Ceremony at this location. A dedicated group of volunteers has been working for almost a year to organize this event with the King's Own Calgary Regiment and the Royal Alberta United Services Institute. The ceremony will centre on the monument at the bottom of the steps leading up to the Battalion numbers after which the site is named. Entrance to the site will be from the Signal Hill Shopping Centre below the large white numbers.

We are also starting to develop a long term plan for raising the profile of this important site in Ward 6. As many thousands of soldiers gathered here from Western Canada to train for the First World War, this park is one of the most historically significant war time sites in Calgary.

If you are interested in learning more about this event, please call your Community Assistant, Sara at (403) 268-1035.
