Blakiston Park, is about to undergo a wonderful transformation. The park currently provides an important connection between residences, businesses and the LRT. After significant redevelopment in the community, it is important that this space is enhanced for the benefit of existing and future users.
After extensive public engagement which informed the final design, construction will begin later this spring and will likely continue next summer. Some of the significant upgrades include:
• Upgrades to the existing pathways and adding a new pathway to facilitate connections to Co-op and to Brentwood station;
• Upgrades to the existing play equipment and adding a new exercise equipment, as well as park furniture;
• The removal of some older trees nearing the end of their lifecycle and replacing them with new trees, shrubs and perennials planted throughout the park.
• The addition of hard surfaces like plazas, that are consistent with the more urbanized park edges which will develop along the south and west sides of the park.
Upon completion, the park will remain an important gathering space for resident of and visitors to Brentwood.
If you want to learn more by hearing from community volunteers, city staff and consultants who worked on this project, a Jane's Walk is taking place at the park on Sunday May 8th at 2pm. We hope to see you there!
