Created from humble beginnings in 1963, the Brentwood Community Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. The Brentwood Community Association has grown and evolved over a half century, expanding their community hall from a small house-like structure to a large Sportsplex that is used by Calgarians from across the city.
Over the years volunteers and neighbours have joined together for various projects that have built a strong sense of fellowship. They have constructed playgrounds and a community garden, painted community murals, and built and installed several Little Free Libraries. In an effort to connect neighbours they started Meet Our Neighbours Day (MONday), when residents are encouraged to go for a walk at the same time in the evening on the first Monday of each month and chat with anyone they meet on the street. Residents of neighbouring communities have started to drop by on MONdays to enjoy the camaraderie.
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Community Association, celebrations will be peppered throughout the year. On Saturday, April 27, 2013 they will host a 50th Anniversary Gala dinner and dance. Sunday, June 16, 2013 will be a family barbeque at the Brentwood Sportsplex. A Senior’s Tea is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2013. Teen’s can swim, watch a movie, and nosh on pizza on Friday, November 15, 2013. More details for all of these events can be found on the Brentwood Community Association webpage.
