The community of Hounsfield Heights Briar Hill was established in August of 1953. Prior to becoming a community, the land that many homes are currently built on was once part of the Riley Family homestead, settled in 1888. The homestead was annexed by The City of Calgary in 1906, the same year that it was first subdivided.

Over the years the community has developed a rich history that area residents are attempting to preserve. The community is compiling their history in an online History Book that dates back to the original settlers. Anecdotal stories from residents who lived in the community in the 1940’s and 1950’s provide a glimpse into what it was like to grow up in Hounsfield Heights Briar Hill when the community was just beginning.
