Now that Calgary has piloted its first pop-up patio outside the busy Vendome in Sunnyside, we’re expanding the concept to pop-up parks and gardens. Built to be temporary and transportable, these affordable little public spaces are perfect for communities that have high residential densities and yet are severely deficient in green space. The first pop-up park will be located in West Downtown, home to a number of high-rise condos but few parks. The idea of pop-up gardens is being explored for the vacant lots and side streets of the Beltline, the highest density community in Calgary with the least amount of parks space.
