See how residents in your neighbourhood commute to work in comparison to other Calgary communities: Travel Dashboard
The residents of Ward 7 are a wonderful mosaic of people with a rich diversity of cultural and economic backgrounds. 23.6% are new Canadians who have arrived primarily from China, the Philippines and the United Kingdom.
We have deep poverty, and thriving prosperity. Incomes vary widely by community with the median household income ranging from $17,000 to $129,000.
We have the highest percentage of residents who walk, cycle or take transit to work thanks to the proximity to the downtown, major transit corridors, and large employers such as SAIT, the Foothills Hospital and the University of Calgary.
Many of our residents are independent (18% living alone), young (45.2% between the ages of 20-44) and have completed a post-secondary education (42% hold a university degree). Maybe this is why we've figured out that we can pay the lowest average rent in Calgary by living in Ward 7! But, are we ready to commit? Only 81% of couples are legally married, and the citywide average is 50%!
The final word is that people of Ward 7 are much more than our statistics; we are generous, engaged and young at heart!
