A National Symposium: A Sworn Member's Risk For Suicide

On May 22-23, 2014, the Calgary Police Service Psychological Services Division hosted a national symposium – A Sworn Member’s Risk for Suicide.  This two-day event was part of an ongoing program to provide education for municipal police about the risk factors associated with suicide deaths among police officers, and the tremendous impact these tragedies have on both members and their families.

Over the course of the symposium, police officers and law enforcement professionals from across Canada heard from international experts in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, mental health and behavioural sciences. They reviewed individual case studies, learned about forensic research in this field and gained an understanding of the risks of suicide in policing organizations.

Due to the interest from those who attended the event and those who were unable to, in some of the material presented during the conference, the CPS Psychological Services Division has approved the public posting of the following four presentation.
