Calgary Police Service

Latin America community

The Calgary Police Service Latin America community liaison officer works to build understanding and awareness to break down the barriers of prejudice and discrimination and build harmony between the Calgary Police Service and the Latin America community in Calgary.

The liaison officer's role is to create and nurture strong relationships built on mutual trust, understanding, and effective two-way communication between those communities and the Calgary Police Service.

The Latin America community liaison officer participates in the Latin America Community Advisory Board. The Advisory Board was formed to foster an atmosphere of goodwill and trust between police and community, and to provide an opportunity to discuss community issues and concerns.

The Latin America community liaison has been actively involved with the community, including facilitation of a youth soccer game between police and youth at the Calgary Police Service headquarters, and other events such as Empanadas with a Cop and the Calgary Police Service YouthLink Museum tour.

Community involvement has also included the establishment and regular meetings of the Latin America Police Advisory Board. This board is a forum for discussion and meets regularly, providing a platform for those within the community to actively engage face-to-face with the police, and to jointly address concerns with the goal of positively impacting Calgarians.
