engage! - Prairie winds park redevelopment

Construction Update

Please visit the project page to find information about the current construction work happening in the park.

Thank you to those who participated in the Revitalizing Prairie Winds Park process!

This engagement process began in July 2014 and concluded in February 2015.

The final Prairie Winds Park Report was approved by Council and detailed design is now underway.

Phase 3 - Winter 2015

The Phase 3 of our engagement took place from January 31 to February 14, 2015. The public was invited to review the preferred concept and take a short survey to provide feedback.

Based on feedback from the first 2 phases of consultation, we developed one preferred design concept for Prairie Winds Park. The preferred concept was presented at a Public Open House on January 31, 2015 - view the presentation materials.

Phase 2 - Fall 2014

Phase 2 of the engagement for Prairie Winds Park took place from October to December, 2014 and focused on collecting input to help shape the final design concept for the park. The results of the Phase 2 engagement are summarized in the What We Heard Report for Phase 2.

Based on your feedback from the first phase (summer 2014), we came up with three different design concepts. These concepts and our design process were presented at a Public Workshop held on October 29 where we heard great input from participants. The video posted above is what was presented at the workshops.

In Phase 2, we asked you what you thought of these concepts, which one you preferred, and what you liked and disliked about each one. We collected feedback through an online survey, sounding boards located in the park, via text, email and Twitter (#prairiewindspark).

Citizen input collected during this second phase of engagement will be used to develop a final park design concept that will be shared with you later this winter. Once a final concept is determined, it will be presented to Council for approval.  Upon approval of the concept additional detailed designs will follow in 2015 and construction a year later in 2016.

Phase 1 - Summer, 2014

The City of Calgary Parks began the public engagement process surrounding redevelopment of the Prairie Winds Park, seeking input from citizens about their thoughts and ideas for updating and improving this well-loved and well-used park.

The first round of engagement will took place from July 14 to August 2.  Calgarians were able to provide their input by answering the following two questions in-person,  through our online survey or by texting/SMS:
  • What do you like most about Prairie Winds Park?
  • What changes would improve Prairie Winds Park?

**Input and ideas were welcomed in English, Punjabi, Urdu, Tagalog, Arabic and Gujarati.

Public input collected during this phase helped shape the initial redevelopment plans for the Park, which the public was able to review during the second round of engagement. Scheduled for the fall, the second phase will include chances to provide input again both online and in-person at Prairie Winds Park. A final design is anticipated by early winter. Detailed designs and construction document preparation are planned for 2015. Construction for the park redevelopment is scheduled to start in 2016.
