About Get Involved

What is public engagement?

The City of Calgary faces complex problems with no easy solutions. We can make more progress by involving the public. Leaders and decision makers need to understand the different perspectives and opinions of Calgarians and public engagement can help foster understanding and trust. Citizen engagement brings about new ideas, new plans for action and new collaborations.

Public engagement is a process that allows citizens to get involved in public issues they care about. Most importantly, it helps leaders and decision makers better understand the perspectives, opinions, and concerns of citizens and stakeholders.

Why does The City need to engage?

When the public is involved in decision making, the results and processes are:

  • Open and transparent
  • Better quality as the leaders and decision makers are better informed.

Why is it important for The City of Calgary to be transparent?

Get Involved is one of the many ways the City of Calgary is ensuring transparency, by informing you on the decisions made, the processes, procedures and opportunities to be involved.

Why does the City of Calgary have an engagement policy?

The City of Calgary knows that making good decisions should be done through public engagement. The City has an engage! policy that provides guidelines for engagement processes. The engage! cornerstones are the foundation to all engagement activities.
