Intermunicipal/Regional Items

  • The City of Calgary and the MD of Foothills have reached an agreement on The City's appeal of the Sirocco Area Structure Plan (ASP). In June of 2009, The City had launched an appeal to the Municipal Government Board regarding the MD's approval of Sirocco ASP, which proposed the future development of approximately 1600 homes in the north portion of the MD, directly adjacent to the City of Calgary.
  • The municipalities have signed an agreement on the appeal, which includes The City initiating the annexation process for a portion of the land within the Sirocco ASP. The portion proposed for annexation was identified as a future annexation area in the Intermunicipal Development Plan, adopted by both The City and the MD in 1998. The annexation of these lands would see them developed within The City's context, rather than the MD.
