Introduction
Located in Calgary's northwest, Brentwood Station is strategically located near University Research Park, The University of Calgary, and the neighbourhoods of Varsity and Brentwood. With the high volume of use and success of the existing LRT system, there are plans to expand the northwest LRT line to a 4-car system, with platform extensions already occurring in the Downtown.
Work on the Brentwood Station Area Redevelopment Plan project began in late 2007, and has been through an extensive public engagement process. Designed as a 30 year policy plan, the Plan was created to guide future redevelopment in the station area, and envisions a more sustainable community through a transit-oriented vibrant mixed-use urban village.
The project area encompasses approximately 88 acres of privately owned commercial properties and city-owned park 'n' ride lands. The Plan will lay the foundation for the development and revitalization of this plan area, encouraging a wide spectrum of uses including: shops, restaurants, live-work units, housing, parks, and plazas.
