The City of Calgary: Hillhurst/Sunnyside Project

Hillhurst/Sunnyside Project

Development & Building Approvals / Land Use Planning & Policy

Planning for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)

Introduction

In 2004, Calgary City Council approved land use policies designed to make the most out of the areas surrounding LRT stations. These policies have prompted a new program of planning studies for the areas within walking distance to the LRT stations and the Sunnyside LRT Station has been chosen as the first area to undergo such a review.

What's next/what's new?

In February 2009, Council directed Administration to investigate and engage with the community on the potential of amending the Hillhurst/Sunnyside ARP and land use designations to allow secondary suites on parcels that are 7.6 metres (25 feet) in width and to report back to Council with the results of the investigation.

At the 22 March 2010 Regular Meeting of Council, Administration is bringing forward a report on the results of an investigation and engagement with the community on the potential of secondary suites on narrow lots in Hillhurst/Sunnyside. The recommendation to Council is that Council receive the report as information only. For reference to the report, please see the link:

Administration would like to thank the community for their input into the engagement process.
