The City of Calgary: Northeast LRT Extensions

Northeast LRT Extensions

Transportation Infrastructure

Calgary’s northeast is growing rapidly. With the development of new business and residential communities in the area, the demand for safe, efficient, and reliable transportation is increasing. The Northeast LRT Extensions will provide relief to traffic congestion in the northeast while improving mobility for Calgarians.

The LRT extension from Whitehorn Station to McKnight-Westwinds Station was the first in northeast Calgary since 1985 and was fast-tracked by City Council in 2004. The new station began boarding passengers on Dec. 17, 2007.

In November 2007, Council approved an additional extension from McKnight-Westwinds Station to Saddle Ridge Station. Public consultation for the Saddle Ridge Station is underway, and construction will begin this year.
