The Métis Trail (formerly 44 Street N.E.) Twinning project, approved by City Council in 2004 with a budget of $8 million, will continue north from the limits of the 36 Street N.E. Twinning project completed in 2005.
Project scope
- Twin Métis Trail from north of 64 Avenue N.E. to north of 80 Avenue N.E.
- Upgrade the intersection at Métis Trail and 80 Avenue N.E. to include left-turn bays
Métis Trail is currentlya single-lane roadway in each direction. The existing lanes will operate throughout construction while the future southbound carriageway is constructed in the 36 Street N.E. right-of-way, west of Métis Trail.
The proposed intersection at Métis Trail and 80 Avenue N.E. includes installation of a traffic signal, constructing dual left-turn bays from 80 Avenue N.E. to Métis Trail, and single left-turn bays from Métis Trail to 80 Avenue N.E. Initially, only one of the dual left-turn bays on 80 Avenue N.E. will open until traffic volumes warrant opening both bays.
Project timeline
The project is currently delayed until The City can secure the required right-of-way.
Public involvement
A public open house was held in March 2006 where attendees viewed plans for the expressway and the intersection. Another open house will be held prior to construction to present detailed designs for the project.
