Moving out of the family home and into off-campus housing is an exciting time for post-secondary students. It's also a time to reflect on the safety of your new residence.
This page will give you the tools you need to assess fire hazards in your new home and what to do about them.
You can reduce your risk – act now.
- Download the Student Fire Safety Checklist to hunt for fire hazards in your home.
- Plan your escape. Know two ways out of every room, especially from sleeping areas.
- Test your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm once a month. If there are none, speak to your landlord. It's your right to live in a suite that meets the Alberta Fire Code.
Stay fire smart! Don't get burned. It takes three minutes for toxic smoke to turn a fire deadly.
