Lock Boxes

Lock (key) boxes provide emergency responders quick and efficient access to a building or business.

Any new building that requires a lock box under the Alberta Fire Code must install one of two City of Calgary-approved products, the Trac-Vault or the Trac-Tube.

Buildings with existing lock boxes are required to retrofit their equipment to these acceptable products by December 31, 2007. Building owners are strongly encouraged to change over to the new lock boxes as soon as possible to take advantage of their increased security and other features.

Requirements for installation by approved lock box service companies and semi-annual inspection of these lock boxes remain unchanged.
