Text View presents content in an accessible format compatible for low bandwidth users, for text-based browsers (for example, Lynx) and/or adaptive technologies (for example, screen readers, screen magnifiers, and speech recognition software).
It is not a completely image-free version of the portal. Rather, some of the larger, repetetive or more complex images and scripting are surpressed. This facilitates faster loading at lower bandwidths and easier use with text-based browsers and adaptive technologies, while preserving the key elements of the content
How to Get to Text View
There are two simple ways to get to Text View.
First, a link in the main portal banner will toggle users between the Text View and Standard View of the portal. This view can be toggled back and forth at will, but will expire when the user ends the browsing session.
Second, if you prefer to maintain the Text View as your default view of the portal, you can set a permanent preference.
To do this, you must first create a portal account, using the Log In link in the portal banner. After logging in, select My Account in the portal banner and choose Display Options. You will be given a choice of Standard Portal, Assistive Technology Portal or Low Bandwidth Portal. Once you have saved your preference, that will become your default view when you return to the portal and log in.
(Note: There are only minor differences between the assistive technology and low andwidth views. The low bandwidth view includes a small amount of content which cannot be interpreted directly by assistive technology browsers and devices. In those instances, alternative browsing options are presented for assistive technology users where appropriate.)
