How to renew your taxi or limousine licence

Taxi and Limousine Driver’s Licence Renewal

To renew your Taxi or Limousine Driver’s Licence, please visit the Livery Transport Services office in person. A licence may be renewed as early as one month prior to expiry date and must be renewed no later than 30 days from the expiry date. Please note it is an offence to operate a taxi or limousine without a valid and subsisting licence.

In order to renew your licence, you must produce the following original documents: A most recent Taxi or Limousine Driver’s Licence, a provincial driver’s licence and a second piece of government issued identification such as:

  • Alberta Health Care card
  • Canadian Citizenship card
  • Canadian passport
  • Canadian birth certificate
  • Permanent Resident card

Upon renewal, licence and Calgary Police Service fees will be collected and a new photo may be taken.

Important Information about renewing your licence

Please note, as stated in our Livery Transport Bylaw, if a Taxi or Limousine Driver’s Licence is not renewed within 30 days of its expiry, the licence is deemed abandoned and you will lose your right to renew. If this occurs, to obtain a licence to drive a taxi, you will need to successfully complete the Taxi Driver Training Course and pay the applicable fees.
