Festival and Events 101

Festival and Events 101 sessions are an important means through which our events services unit provides ongoing support and professional development opportunities to event organizers.

Our first session of 2019 will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Historic Holy Angels Civic Building, 2105 Cliff Street S.W.

If you would like to learn more about the City services and legislated requirements when hosting your festivals and events in Calgary, please register. This is also a great opportunity to meet with your City of Calgary Event Liaison, mingle with other event organizers, share information and speak to experts in the field.

The session is free to anyone who is involved with organizing both large and small scale events, festivals, walks or runs in Calgary.

Each session will include time for Q&A, so you can ask questions that apply to your specific event.

The session will include:

  • 6:00-6:05 p.m. Welcome
  • 6:05-6:30 p.m. Calgary Fire: Outdoor Special Event Guide and Site Inspections
  • 6:30-7:00 p.m. Occupational Health & Safety: Legislation Awareness & Best Practices Manual
  • 7:00-7:30 p.m. Alberta Health Services: Requirement for Special Event and Community Functions
  • 7:30-7:55 p.m. Waste & Recycling: Suggestions for Your Event’s Waste & Recycling Strategy
  • 7:55-8:00 p.m. Wrap-up

Topics for the Festivals & Events 101 series are chosen based on expressed event organizer need, best practices or as a platform to communicate changes to our policy or process. All sessions are free but registration is required. Information on specific sessions will be posted here as it becomes available.
