Become a Recreation Leader

The perfect job for students and young adults!

Do you have a passion for sports, arts, or helping children/youth with their homework? If you answered "yes" then we are looking for you. Recreation Leaders are responsible for delivering exciting programs to both children and youth. They are involved in general recreation programs such as special events, youth programs, day camps and children’s programs. 

A few reasons why you should become a Recreation Leader:

  • It's more than a job: You can make a real difference in the life of a child or youth.
  • Are you currently in school and have a demanding schedule? There are many Recreation Leader positions available around the City of Calgary, there may be a program running close to your home or school.


The successful applicant must be at least 15 years of age and must hold a current Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Level "C" certification. Recommended Standard First Aid CPR/AED Level C providers include: The City of Calgary, Lifesaving, Red Cross or St. John Ambulance.

Preference will be given to applicants who have participated in Youth Leadership courses and/or possess High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification through The City of Calgary or other agency providing Youth Leadership training. Previous experience, training and/or knowledge of Physical Literacy will be considered an asset. Prior volunteer or program leadership experience would also be considered an asset.
