COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Changes to City services

The following City of Calgary service changes are in place due to the COVID-19 / Coronavirus pandemic.

Animal services


Service Status update Status information
Cat trap program

Temporarily suspended

If the stray cat appears unhealthy and you are able to handle it, please take it to the closest vet clinic.
Lost or impounded cats and dogs

The Animal Services Centre remains open to the public with restrictions on who can visit in-person.
No Cost Spay/Neuter program

Temporarily suspended

All previously scheduled appointments are now canceled and indefinitely postponed.
Pet licensing

Open (online only)

Pet licence renewals or purchases can be completed online.
Pet adoptions

Open

There are no restrictions. Please respect guidelines when coming to the facility by using hand sanitizer and physical distance oneself from others.

Calgary Transit


Calgary Transit is temporarily reducing the frequency for some routes. Get the latest updates on changes to Calgary Transit service.

Bus services

Open with restrictions

Bus routes will have fewer trips throughout the day and you may experience longer wait times. Some routes have been temporarily suspended. About half of the seats on our buses will be blocked off with signage to promote physical distancing.
C-Train

Open with restrictions

C-Trains are running with reduced frequency and you may experience longer wait times. Keep two metres away from your fellow passengers.

Indoor recreation


We've closed all City-owned recreation facilities until further notice. Refunds or credits for recreation bookings and programs will be provided as appropriate.

Corporate Records and Archives

We've temporaily closed the Archives and Records front counter.

Researchers can submit archival research requests via email, phone 403-368-8180 or regular mail.
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP)

Open (online only)

We've temporarily closed the FOIP front counter. Applicants can download forms online and submit online or by mail.

Parks and outdoor space reservations

Play field and baseball diamond reservations

Closed

Bookings are unavailable to all organized team games or activities.
Golf course bookings

Open with restrictions

We're opening select City-owned golf courses on May 14. Online bookings are available for three City courses. Physical distancing measures will be in place.
Tennis court reservations

Open with restrictions

Singles tennis is permitted, with physical distancing measures. Doubles tennis with members outside your household is not allowed at this time.
Cemeteries        

Open with restrictions

All graveside services are to remain private family events, up to 15 people. Mausoleum services are restricted to immediate family, up to 10 people.
Glenmore Reservior boating

Closed

The Glenmore Reservoir is closed to all boating activities due to water levels. Water is gradually being released from the Reservoir to manage spring runoff.

Planning and Development services

Planning and Development Counter

Open (online and by mail)

We've temporarily closed the Planning and Development counter. We're accepting applications by drop-off or online.

We also have a new digital intake process for large scale development permits, land use amendment applications and outline plans.
Permits and business licenses

Open (online only)

You can apply online for development permits, building permits or business licenses.

We're also deferring and waiving some fee payments in 2020.
Construction and inspections

Open with restrictions

We're continuing inspections. We may conduct the inspection through video or by an in-person visit (using physical distancing).
Development appeals

Open

Applications are subject to the standard 21-day appeal period.
Property research

Open (phone or by appointment)

You can call 311 to make a property research request or call 403-268-2608 to make an appointment. Walk-ins are not accepted at this time.

Waste and recycling

Blue cart pickup

Open with temporary restrictions

May 26 update: The Cascades Recovery sorting facility has resumed operations after dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19 with operations at 75% this week.

The City will continue to collect blue carts this week. Most materials will be sorted at the Cascades facility, but as they cannot run at full capacity, some material may need to be landfilled. This also affects community recycling depot locations as well.

Green cart pickup

Green carts are collected weekly.
Black cart pickup

Black carts are collected once every other week.
Extra bags outside of the cart We have resumed picking up extra bags of waste left outside the cart.
Electronics recycling

Open (at select locations)

Some electronics recycling depots may have reduced hours or be closed until further notice. Contact the location directly to confirm hours of operation prior to dropping off your electronics.
Donation bins and charities

Closed

Many charities are not able to accept donations right now. Consider holding onto items as charities will need them afterwards to keep running their charitable causes.
