COVID-19 - Changes to City services

The following City of Calgary service changes are in place due to the COVID-19 / Coronavirus pandemic.

Animal services


Service Status update Status information
Cat trap program

Temporarily suspended

If the stray cat appears unhealthy and you are able to handle it, please take it to the closest vet clinic.
Lost or impounded cats and dogs

Open with restrictions

The Animal Services Centre remains open to the public with restrictions on who can visit in-person.
No Cost Spay/Neuter program

Temporarily suspended

All previously scheduled appointments are now canceled and indefinitely postponed.
Pet licensing

Open (online only)

Pet licence renewals or purchases can be completed online.
Pet adoptions

Open

There are no restrictions. Please respect guidelines when coming to the facility by using hand sanitizer and physical distance oneself from others.

Calgary Transit


Calgary Transit is temporarily reducing the frequency for some routes. Get the latest updates on changes to Calgary Transit service.

Bus services

Open with restrictions

Bus routes will have fewer trips throughout the day and you may experience longer wait times. Some routes have been temporarily suspended. About half of the seats on our buses will be blocked off with signage to promote physical distancing.
C-Train

Open with restrictions

C-Trains are running with reduced frequency and you may experience longer wait times. Keep two metres away from your fellow passengers.

Indoor recreation


We've closed all City-owned recreation facilities until further notice. Refunds or credits for recreation bookings and programs will be provided as appropriate.

Preparing for reopening

Four arena ice surfaces will be available on or before June 29. Arena dry pads are available for booking now.
Calgary Soccer Centre

Partially open

Outdoor fields are open and available for bookings. Indoor fields remain closed.
Indoor Pools, Fitness, and Leisure Centres

Preparing for reopening

The City is aiming to have four indoor aquatic and fitness facilities open on or before July 20.
Recreation Centres
(YMCA locations, Cardel Rec South, Genesis Centre, Great Plains Recreation, Repsol Centre, Trico Centre, Vivo Centre and Westside Recreation)

Libraries

Calgary Public Library meeting rooms

Closed

Corporate Records and Archives

We've temporaily closed the Archives and Records front counter.

Researchers can submit archival research requests via email, phone 403-368-8180 or regular mail.
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP)

Open (online only)

We've temporarily closed the FOIP front counter. Applicants can download forms online and submit online or by mail.

Parks and outdoor space reservations

Athletic park, playfield and baseball diamond bookings

Open with restrictions

As of June 1, restrictions will be eased to allow sports training, dryland training and skills practice development only with physical distancing in place. Organized and team sports and equipment sharing are prohibited. Renewal groups will be contact prior to June 1. New field permits and use of fields start on June 1.
Playgrounds

Open

The City will re-open more than 1,100 City-operated playgrounds by June 3.
Golf course bookings

Open with restrictions

Online bookings are available for select City-owned golf courses. Physical distancing measures will be in place.
Tennis court reservations

Open with restrictions

Singles tennis is permitted, with physical distancing measures. Doubles tennis with members outside your household is not allowed at this time.
Cemeteries        

Open with restrictions

All graveside services are to remain private family events, up to 100 people while maintaining physical distancing of 2 metres. Mausoleum services are restricted to private family events, up to 50 people. The Mausoleum is open from 9am to 3pm daily​.
Glenmore Reservior boating

Closed

The Glenmore Reservoir is currently being prepared for recreational use and remains closed to all boating activities. Rentals will not be offered this season. Check back for an announcement on an official opening date.

Planning and Development services

Planning and Development Counter

Open (online and by mail)

We've temporarily closed the Planning and Development counter. We're accepting applications by drop-off or online.

We also have a new digital intake process for large scale development permits, land use amendment applications and outline plans.
Permits and business licenses

Open (online only)

You can apply online for development permits, building permits or business licenses.

We're also deferring and waiving some fee payments in 2020.
Construction and inspections

Open with restrictions

We're continuing inspections. We may conduct the inspection through video or by an in-person visit (using physical distancing).
Development appeals

Open (online, by mail, and dropoff)

The SDAB office is closed but appeals can be filed online.

Please note that the deadline for filing an appeal still applies. Hardcopies of appeals can be mailed or submitted by using our secure dropbox located on the 1st floor, in the back hallway (past the elevators), near the postal mailboxes. Please ensure your name, contact information and, if possible, date deposited are included on your materials. Please visit our website​ for more information.
Property research

You can call 311 to make a property research request or call 403-268-2608 to make an appointment. Walk-ins are not accepted at this time.

Some electronics recycling depots may have reduced hours or be closed until further notice. Contact the location directly to confirm hours of operation prior to dropping off your electronics.

Some charities may not be accepting donations right now. Before donating your items:

  • Call ahead and make sure the location is open and is accepting items.
  • If a location is closed, consider holding onto items as they will need them later on to keep running their charitable causes.
