Train derailment in NE Calgary - TEST ONLY

Updated 10:04 a.m. March 6, 2018: A train car has derailed in Harvest Hills, creating a spill of anhydrous ammonia. No injuries have been reported.

Evacuation Information

As a precaution, an evacuation has been extended for a portion of the community (map shown below). The evacuation is expected to last until crews have completed the clean-up, anticipated late this evening.

The communities affected include parts of:

  • Coventry Hills
  • Country Hills Village
  • Harvest Hills
  • Aurora Business Park
  • Deerfoot Business Centre
  • Stoney 1 & Stoney 2 Business Parks

  • An information centre for evacuated residents has been opened at Vivo Centre at 111950 Country Village Link NE with phone charging stations and a waiting area.
  • Emergency crews are working to clean up the hazardous materials.
  • Major road closures are in effect for Coventry Close BV in both directions from 14 St NE to Harvest Hills Gate NE., and Deerfoot Trail NE at Beddington Trail NE and Stoney Trail NW. Check the map below for a full list of road closures (red circles).
  • Airport operations are slower than usual due to traffic delays so give yourself extra time and find alternate routes.
  • Please avoid the area and give emergency services room to do their work.
