Situated in Calgary’s Northwest quadrant, the framework of Ward 1 is made up of an assortment of diverse geography and communities. From established neighbourhoods with 100 years of history, to the “up-and-coming” new developments, Ward 1 is home to young professionals, new families and an active senior population who all make up its diverse fabric.
Ward 1 is comprised of the following communities: Bowness, Canada Olympic Park, Crestmont, Greenwood Village/Green Briar, Rocky Ridge, Royal Oak, Scenic Acres, Silver Springs, Tuscany, Valley Ridge, and Varsity.
Community Issues
Collectively, the communities in this ward face a broad range of local projects, improvements and change. Some current topics of concern for Ward 1 are: preserving natural park space; ensuring active aging programs; secondary suite review; the West Memorial sanitary trunk development; NW Corridor Studies; 15 developments and projects in Ward 1; the construction of Bowfort Interchange and the Silver Springs Outdoor Pool; and anticipated traffic issues.
Even though future change and community improvements will benefit Ward 1, there can be challenges along the way. Councillor Ward Sutherland is confident that by working together, they can be managed and/or overcome.
